For Laker fans this is one catastrophic re-signing that finally lets you take a deep breath and wipe that dripping sweat right off of your forehead. For Heat fans, well, there is always next year. Actually, not really. If the Heat do not make a move quickly Wade’s future in Miami will certainly be in jeopardy.

Getting back to Los Angeles, does this re-signing assure the Lakers a repeat at the NBA Title? Let’s take a look. In my previous Lamar Odom article, I brought about that regardless if the Lakers were to re-sign Odom or not, they would remain as the most powerful team in the NBA.

With ESPN now reporting that Odom will re-sign a four-year, $33 million deal with Los Angeles, there is no possible way any professional NBA analyst can rank the Lakers anywhere else besides on top of the totem pole.

When you combine the prowess of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom, it’s really difficult to deny the power of this NBA team. No other roster competes with the likes of such an amazing depth of talent.

This is simply an unstoppable roster. I’ve never witnessed a foursome as strong as this since I began following basketball twenty years ago. And I don’t see how anyone can dispute that.

Combine all four of these players with the zen-like mastery of Phil Jackson, and no one holds a candle to the Lakers, especially in the West. Teams like Dallas and San Antonio have made some nice moves this summer, but the Lakers moved forward two steps while they all moved forward one.

When previewing their 09′-10′ NBA season, it is not out of harms way to state that the Lakers have an excellent chance at winning 70 plus games. Even though we are in the midst of off-season, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to win the Lamar Odom sweepstakes and come up with yet another “W”.
